BigSzem írta:I finally found someone who is willing to look at it.

He believes the crankshaft is the issue which is a factory issue with that year boxer engines based on some reading. I was wondering if anyone here had this issue and believes if it would be worth fixing or should I just scrap the car. Would there be much of a chance of it just needing the crankshaft and bearings and not need a whole new engine?

Also, would anyone be able to point me in the right direction as to where to look for used engines so I can see expected prices?

Thanks,

To be honest, it was a big mistake buying a Subaru with an early 2008-2010 boxer diesel engine. You should have done the all the reading before you bought it.
You can find everywhere on the internet, discussed countless times here and on other forums as well, that this engine is prone to crankshaft breaking and all kind of issues - which leads to an engine replacement (under warranty) otherwise it means a serious repair cost to the owners. Probably the best thing to do is to sell/scrap it as soon as possible. Not sure your problem is the same (crankshaft), but repair costs are usually very-very high. Highly recommended to let it properly diagnosed by a Subaru specialist mechanic in Budapest.

BigSzem írta:Hello, and apologies I do not speak Hungarian. I hope this will go through but i can translate and read if its easier to answer me in Hungarian.

I am looking for suggestions on a mechanic that can fix my car or at least willing to try to fix it.

I am in Szeged and I recently bought a 2008 Subaru Legacy 2.0D Boxer Diesel (170,000km), on the first long trip it broke down on the way back and for the life of my I can not find the issue. Four Mechanics looked at it, one said the turbo coolant pipe could be the issue, second said it needs a transmission, third it needs a new engine, fourth said its the clutch. However no on will touch the car because they do not understand Boxer Diesels. The closest certified shop is in Kecskemét.

Kovacs here in Szeged said there's a leak of oil from the engine and also the clutch needs to be replaced. But to fix or see if the engine has a problem we have to replace the clutch and then drive a 100 km and see what happens which also they will not do because they do not work on boxer diesels. I am worried about taking it to a dealer, tow truck cost there, replacing the parts in full brand new parts paying a lot of money only to find that the engine is gone and needs a lot more to fix than the car is worth at this point.

Any recommendations or suggestions are very appreciated. I can drive the car locally (up to 3rd gear) so if its close i can get the car there without a tow.

Thanks,
I don't know if you are going to find anyone in Szeged, and even if you would, the expertise is questionable.
Almost everyone in the country who cares about their Subaru bring their cars to BP to service.
Vajna Zoli, Hacecar, Bálna, Victory motors, and a few more who are generally suggested.
